Internazionali d’Italia Series, new route for the final stage in Chies d’Alpago (BL)

The fourth and final round of the most important Italian cross-country race will be held on the last weekend of June on a historic but completely renovated course.

The Internazionali d’Italia series is approaching the last and decisive act of the 2024 edition, the Chies d’Alpago stage, scheduled for 28th-30th June. As was the case in San Zeno di Montagna and Esanatoglia, the showcase of the Internazionali d’Italia Series is an opportunity for organisers and local authorities to renew tracks and infrastructures, with an important legacy for the future of the various areas.

This is also the case of Chies d’Alpago, in the province of Belluno, where the Chies Cycling Club has spent the last few months modernising the course according to the standards currently in vogue in XC, which envisage short and spectacular routes where the public can move quickly to see the athletes in several passages in the same lap.

The Lamosano circuit (in the hamlet of Chies, where the event will take place) is a historical circuit on both the national and international mountain bike scene, where two European Championships were held in 2005 and 2016, and which had already been partially redesigned for the 2023 edition.

For the 2024 edition, however, the organisers – coordinated by Paolo Zanon – have made further improvements, as explained by Nello De Min and Nicola De March, who are responsible for the course: “The first part in the undergrowth remains unchanged, while there are innovations after the first descent before entering the Tessina riverbed,” explain the two technicians. “A series of jumps over rocks and logs has been introduced, as well as a hairpin that joins the old route. A new rock garden has been created between the ascent from the river and before the refuelling area, as well as a fast passage through the forest“.

The new route will be 3.6 kilometres long, with a positive difference in altitude of 150 metres, while the start and finish will be confirmed in Piazza Roma in Lamosano.

The event, which will take place at the end of June, will be a very important one for an area, the Alps, which already has a very high tourist vocation and where mountain biking is at home. In addition to the grand finale of the Internazionali d’Italia series on Saturday 29th June, the Italian Team Relay Championship will start on 28th June and the weekend will end on Sunday 30th June with a national youth race.

Zanon, president of the Chies cycling club had this to say: “In the month leading up to the 2024 date, we will be fine-tuning the details of an event that will be a moment at the highest technical level – for many athletes it will be the final event before the Paris Olympics – but at the same time it will be a great promotional opportunity for the Alpago, a region that Fat Wheels has helped to promote and whose promotion it will be able to help even more in the future.
