Martina Berta looking for World Cup feeling in Capoliveri

The Italian rider, winner of the opening stage of Internazionali d’Italia Series in San Zeno di Montagna, returns to Elba Island after the nasty crash in 2022. “I hope to find the right feeling and to enjoy the race. A maiden World Cup win is my seasonal goal”

Capoliveri Legend XCO won’t be just any other race for Martina Berta. The event scheduled for Saturday, April 8th, is Internazionali d’Italia Series’ first Hors Catégorie event of the season and features some of the top names in international mountain bike, all of them looking for encouraging feedbacks with just more than a month to the XC World Cup debut. For Berta in particular, though, Capoliveri is related to an unpleasant memory: indeed, last year she crashed on the Elba Island on the race eve, suffering a broken spine vertebra.

“It will definitely feel a bit special for me, and I will live it day by day up to the race. Sure thing is that I want to find again the best feeling and enjoy the Capoliveri race” – said Berta -. “After the crash, I had moments of downset, but that forced me to make a big leap on a mental side and I got stronger. Since then, I’ve been working very hard, and I think that’s the key for my comeback on a great level and for the results in this early part of the season”.

Following an excellent ending of the 2022 season, the athlete of Santa Cruz – Rockshox Team has already won 4 times this year.

“I feel good, my condition is great and this beginning of the season was just perfect, beyond any expectation. I knew I did a good job with the winter training: the preparation was just on point and here come the results”.

In Capoliveri, the 25-year-old Italian will face again some of the same opponents of last week’s race in Monte Tamaro: Swiss Sina Frei, Linda Indergand and Nicole Koller.

“Their careers say enough about how good they are. Sina Frei and Linda Indergand are two-thirds of the Olympic Podium in Tokyo, while Nicole Koller has been recently making a name for herself, and I’m sure she will be among the riders to watch. Two weeks ago I faced them in Switzerland, and now it’s time for them to come here training and racing in Italy. I think it will be a great test for all of us”.

On the other hand, fellow Italians are not to forget, especially in home races:Giada Specia is definitely a talented athlete, plus Capoliveri also perfectly fits Chiara Teocchi, who I think will have a great race. My teammate Sara Cortinovis will also be there in the discussion: she’s a hard worker and she will give Italian fans many joys in the future”.

“On my side, Capoliveri will be one of the last races before my debut in the World Cup. After that, I will focus on one of my wildest dreams: winning a WC stage” – ended Berta.

The Capoliveri Legend XCO program for Saturday, April 8, includes the men’s UCI Junior Series race at 09.00, followed by the women’s competitions (Open and Juniors) at 11.00 and the men’s Open race at 14.00. The competitions for the youth categories are scheduled on Sunday, April 9.
