Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 3, Capoliveri Legend XCO, started with a thrilling head-to-head in the Men’s Junior race. A Swiss rising star celebrated in the Elba Island for the second year in a row: after Nils Aebersold in the 2021 edition, today, on Monday, April 18th, Yannick Binz (Bike Team Solothurn) raised his arms on the finish line of the Men’s Junior race.
The Swiss rider preceded Internazionali d’Italia Series’ leader Marco Betteo (Scott Racing) after a strong duel. Betteo consolidated his lead in the overall standings, as Carlo Cortesi (KTM-Protek) completed the day’s podium.
On a sunny morning, Capoliveri Legend XCO’s schedule started at 10.00 am CET with the Men’s Junior race. In the first two laps of the five in the race program, the route designed by the ASD Capoliveri Bike Park with the advice of the Italian trail builder Enrico Martello gave Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 3 a balanced competition.
In the lap 3, the ups and downs of the Elba circuit made difference with the action of 5 athletes: Cortesi (KTM-Protek), Ferri (Vallerbike), Bassignana (Trinx), Binz (Bike Team Solothurn) and the Men’s JR overall leader Betteo (Scott Racing). Ferri was distanced from the escape group, whilst Ceschin (Velo Club Modena) reached the head of the race with a brilliant action in lap 4.
In the final lap, Binz and Betteo launched the decisive attack on the last climb, outdistancing the other escapees. After completing the fast downhill, Binz outsprinted Betteo on the finish line.
