Internazionali d’Italia Series, the Italian Championships, and a World medal in Val di Sole are the main goals of Agostinacchio’s ambitious summer season, which starts in Aosta Valley on Saturday, June 26th
Italian junior prospect Filippo Agostinacchio (Scott-Libarna) is ready to defend his Internazionali d’Italia Series‘ Junior GC lead at La Thuile MTB Race, in his own Aosta Valley Region, the final stage of the Italian XC circuit on Saturday, June 26th.
The Scott-Libarna team’s 18-year old has confirmed to belong among the best riders of his generation, and isn’t shy to declare his goals for an eventful forthcoming summer: first La Thuile MTB Race, also hosting a UCI Junior Series stage, then the European Championships in Novi Sad (Serbia), and finally the World Championships in Val di Sole (Italy).
“I hope to claim the Internazionali crown before heading to the Italian Champs. After that, I will take a little break before building up for the European and World Champs. I am determined to make a good run for a World medal in Italy“, Agostinacchio admits.
The Italian rising star is training in Aosta Valley to get used to the race conditions of the next weekend. “I’m fine, I’ve been training well for the Internazionali d’Italia Series final stage. The feelings are good – said Agostinacchio. – I can rely on a margin on Siffredi in the GC (13 points), but there’s no room for calculations, and I am looking forward to testing myself against the best rivals in the UCI Junior Series race.”
Two years ago, Agostinacchio won in La Thuile in the Rookies category. “In 2019, the organization chose not to include the most technical stretches in the youth categories’ loop, but I had already tested those at the time. Here you need to watch out for those treacherous descents after brutal uphill efforts: you have a chance as long as you avoid mistakes“.
In view of La Thuile MTB Race, Agostinacchio leads the JR classification with 101 points, ahead of his teammate and reigning Italian National Junior Champion Matteo Siffredi (88). Third place for Team Rive Rosse’s Matteo Betteo (81 points). “Matteo Siffredi and I are teammates, we will battle for the win but still with a lot of respect for each other”.
La Thuile MTB Race offers two days of action. On Saturday, June 26th, the Internazionali d’Italia Series competitions will take place: Men’s UCI Junior Series at 10.30 CET, Women’s Open race and UCI Junior Series at 12.30 CET; Men’s Open race at 15.00 CET. On Sunday, June 27th, the youth competitions will end the program with Men’s Cadets at 10.00 CET, Women’s Cadets and Rookies at 11.00 CET, and Men’s Rookies at 13.30 CET.
