Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 4 in Pineto (Abruzzo, Central Italy), to be held on Sunday May 5th, was presented in Pescara, in the Abruzzo Region palace
From the hills of Nals and San Marino to Pineto’s promenade: Internazionali d’Italia Series winds down to the sea level, two months after the opening round in Andora, to face stage 4, Aprutium Race, scheduled on Sunday May 5th in the Adriatic Coast.
Today, Thursday May 2nd, the second edition of the event was officially presented in the Abruzzo Region main site in Pescara. Robert Verrocchio (Mayor of Pineto), Mauro Marrone (President of the Italian Cycling Federation’s Abruzzo Committee), Pio Pavone (Pineto Balneators’s Association President), Pietro Palozzo (Torre del Cerano’s Marine Protected Area) and Andrea Cesarini (head of the organizing committee) took the floor at the press conference.
TEMPIER AND LECHNER LEAD THE OPEN CATEGORIES
Stephane Tempier (Bianchi Countervail) and Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Torpado Ursus) are true to their word of targeting Internazionali d’Italia Series’ crown. Aprutium Race could become the pivotal race of the challenge between two top-class riders.
In case of victory, Tempier will move closer to the overall success before La Thuile’s final round, whilst the Italian Champion, winner one year ago in the event backed by the Abruzzo Region and the Pineto Municipality, looks to reduce the gap. Runner-up at Titano XCO, ahead of Nino Schurter, Nadir Colledani (Bianchi Countervail) leads the outsiders’ peloton, including CS Carabinieri’s Nicholas Pettinà and Luca Braidot.
In the women’s category, Eva Lechner (Torpado Südtirol) will face Aprutium Race with the leader’s jersey on her shoulders. Thanks to her beautiful win at Titano XCO, the Italian Champion has overtaken Martina Berta (Torpado Ursus) in the overall standings. Vera Medvedeva (Metallurgica Veneta), Giorgia Marchet (Team Rudy Project) and Chiara Teocchi (Bianchi Countervail) are also expected to be in contention in Abruzzo.
For the second edition of the Aprutium Race, ASD Cerrano Outdoor’s organizers have set up a very challenging route of 4,2 Km, characterized by an 175-meter elevation per lap.
Aprutium Race’s programme will be run on a single days. On Sunday May 5th, the Cadet Men will compete at 8.30, followed by Cadet Women and Rookie Women at 9.00, Rookie Men at 10.00, Junior Men at 11.00, Open and Junior Women at 12.30 and Open Men at 14.30.
