The experienced French leads Team Bianchi Countervail in Internazionali d’Italia Series’ opening stage in Andora (Liguria, Northern Italy), on Saturday March 2nd. “I feel good, I know I can aim high”
48 hours are left to the official debut of 2019 Internazionali d’Italia Series. The main Italian Mountain Bike circuit – organized by CM Outdoor Events under the aegis of the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) and the International Cycling Union (UCI) – is ready to celebrate the beginning of the 18th edition with a new spectacular stage.
On Saturday March 2nd, Andora Race Cup – event organized by the Municipality of Andora with the collaboration of Andora Race – will host one of the first Mountain Bike events of the International calendar, in the ideal climate oof the Ligurian Riviera, very popular among riders for both training and racing. Among the standout names at the start, Team Bianchi Countervail’s leader Stephane Tempier, fourth in his seasonal debut in Banyoles (Spain), will be one of the main rivals of Internazionali d’Italia Series’ defending champion Gioele Bertolini (Santa Cruz-FSA) and Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Torpado-Ursus). The Italian Champion will line up in the Elite race (12.30 am CET) with the #1 bib.
“The winter preparation has been ideal and I am happy with my condition. I know a good result in Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 1 is within my reach – said Tempier. – This circuit is one of the most important in Europe and represents an important season goal for Team Bianchi Countervail”.
Two-time overall winner in the Elite category (2010 and 2016), the 32-year-old from Gap (France) will try to score a hefty result in Andora, with the ambition of laying foundations for the overall contention. “If I am in the run for the overall in La Thuile, it will mean the early season panned out well – going from March through June, Internazionali is a thermometer for this 3-month stint of the season. The rivals are strong: competing against the top riders in the World is an incentive for improvement even for experienced athletes like me”.
In Andora, the Team Bianchi Countervail Frenchman will be in the action on a modern cross-country course, charted with the advice of Italian National Team Coach Mirko Celestino. “I expect a spectacular race, with lots of strong competitors. Kerschbaumer looks good compared to last years in this period, but Gioele Bertolini, Estonian Martin Loo, Braidot twins and my teammate Nadir Colledani should not be overlooked. Colledani’s presence is strategic for the team in tactical terms. Nadir is a brilliant and talented biker: working together, we can do good things”.
Internazionali d’Italia Series’ programme starts with the Men’s Junior race (9:00AM), followed by Junior and Open Women at 10:45AM and Open Men at 12:30AM.
