Sunday’s third stage of Internazionali d’Italia Series in Pineto was presented in Pescara on Tuesday. Italian National Champion Kerschbaumer discovered the route last Thursday: “It’s very technical, I like it”
The first edition of Aprutium Race, third stage of Internazionali d’Italia Series scheduled on Sunday June 10th in Pineto (Teramo, Abruzzo, Central Italy), is getting closer. The seaside village on the Adriatic Sea awaits the international event, with expectations for a big show and entertaining duels among the cross country specialists.
Today, Tuesday June 5th, the event was officially presented in the Abruzzo Region headquarter in Pescara. Silvio Paolucci (Abruzzo’s health and sports assessor), Robert Verrocchio (Mayor of Pineto), Gabriele Martella (Pineto’s Tourism Assessor), Pio Pavone (Pineto Balneators’s Association President) and Andrea Cesarini (head of the organizing committee) took the floor at the press conference.
“I think that an international event like the Aprutium Race represents a reason of pride for our region – said Paolucci. – The touristic potential of mountain biking in the area is for everyone to see – an event like this can be a boost toward the development of sustainable tourism in the area.”
A vision shared by the Mayor of Pineto, Robert Verrocchio. “For several years, Pineto has been characterized by the sustainable tourism. The Aprutium Race will bring mountain bike in a quite unique setting, by the sea, and I think it’s going to be interesting.”
For the first edition of the Aprutium Race, the organizers have set up a very challenging route of 3,9 Km, characterized by an 170-meter elevation per lap. “We are debuting on the international scene with the goal to organize a beautiful event – said the head of the organizing committee, Andrea Cesarini – The route is located near the promenade in a wooded zone with several technical difficulties. The climbs are short but intense, with many changes in gradients and several obstacles suitable to athletes with technical skills. In addition, power will be fundamental in a race like this”.
The circuit designed by the ASD Cerrano Outdoor organizers impressed Italian National Champion Gerhard Kerschbaumer, who last Thursday came on a recce ride on the course. “I like it. It’s a tough route with ascents and descents in immediate sequence. The heat will be a factor, as the difficulties of the circuit characterized by a very long jump and an insidious rock garden. It will be a beautiful race, with significant gaps as the circuit does not offer moments of break”.
After a seven-week break, Internazionali d’Italia Series entered the month of the final verdicts, with Estonian Martin Loo and defending champion Serena Calvetti at the top of the Open categories, followed by the “next gen” represented by Gioele Bertolini and Marika Tovo.
Organized thanks to the support of Abruzzo Region, Pineto Municipality, and the passion of partners like N.A.P.A, Celsius, Caffè Sequella, Comind, Pasticceria Ferretti and the Pineto Balneators’s Association, the Aprutium Race programme will be run on two days.
