In Lamosano di Chies d’Alpago (Belluno, Northern Italy), the OC is already working full-throttle for Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final showdown of Sunday June 30th, featuring the two-time Olympic Champion. The Italian XCE and Youth XC championships will round out the three-day programme
Three years after an exciting edition of the Cross Country European Championships, Lamosano di Chies d’Alpago (Belluno, Northern Italy) is ready to welcome the best of the Mountain Bike universe again thanks to Alpago Bike Funtastic (June 29th – July 1st), Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final round (Saturday June 30th). The most important Cross-Country circuit in Italy is now underway, as two rounds have already been contested: the 18th Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race of Sunday April 15th in Nals (Bozen, Northern Italy) and the 1st Titano XCO of Sunday April 22nd in San Marino. Estonian Martin Loo and Internazionali d’Italia Series’ defending champion Serena Calvetti lead the overall rankings in the Open Men and Women categories in view of the stage 3, the Aprutium Race, scheduled on Sunday June 10th in Pineto (Teramo, Central Italy).
Like at the 2015 European Championships, “Le Roi” Julien Absalon is expected to steal the show in a territory with a long and established tradition in high-level MTB. The French start will bring additional interest to Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final showdown, that will determine the successors of Marco Aurelio Fontana and Serena Calvetti in the circuit’s golden book.
In Chies d’Alpago, Absalon won two of his five European titles (2006 and 2015), and that speaks volumes of the feeling between the two time Olympic Champion and the events organized by ASD S.C. Chies d’Alpago.
In addition to the new titling of the event, the race course represents one of Alpago Bike Funtastic’s novelties: compared to the 2015 European Championships, the organizers made some adjustments to the start and finish areas, now located in the same place. In addition, the track will be speeded up with the goal to increase the areas of visibility and the overall spectacle, without affecting the technical characteristics. “We have studied new solutions without altering one of the most appreciated routes by the Cross Country champions”, said the race’s coordinator Paolo Zanon. A few days ago, Italian MTB National Team Coach Mirko Celestino carried out a reconnaissance on the race’s route. “It’s a very tough course – Celestino explained. – The adjustments are set to improve the overall experience for the public. Alpago Bike Funtastic should provide for entertaining races, and a beautiful showdown for Internazionali d’Italia Series”.
Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final stage of Saturday June 30th will be the “main event” of Alpago Bike Funtastic: the first race of the day, Junior Men, starts at 9:30 am CET, followed by Junior and Open Women (12:00 am) and Open Men (3:00 pm), the latter to be broadcast in LIVE streaming on the circuit’s official channels together with the highlights from the other categories. Alpago Bike Funtastic’s programme will be opened on Friday June 29th by the Italian Cross-Country Eliminator National Championships: a highly-spectacular discipline characterized by short and technical races with the formula of the qualification rounds. Finally, on Sunday July 1st, the Youth Italian Cross-Country National Championships will close the programme in style.
“Alpago Bike Funtastic promises a high-level weekend – Zanon continued – with a big name like Julien Absalon, who has always been close to our territory and the event that we organize since 1990”.
Three days of big competitions will inflame the Veneto region. If Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race and Titano XCO have represented a crackling start for the challenge organized by CM Outdoor Events, Alpago Bike Funtastic – event supported by Veneto Region, Belluno Province, Alpago Mountain Community and the municipalities of the Alpago Valley – has everything in place to offer a memorable finale, determining 2018 Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final verdicts.
