On Sunday April 22nd, the second stage of Internazionali d’Italia Series will bring up the show of the fans of the small Republic. Gioele Bertolini, Luca Braidot and Andrea Tiberi expected among the top contenders
Sun keeps shining over Internazionali d’Italia Series. A week after the beautiful debut weekend in Nals, Titano XCO, the second stage of the top Italian XC circuit, looks destined for another Summer-like day on Sunday April 22nd, when San Marino will host the first ever stage of the circuit outside the Italian borders.
In the paddock, there are smiles from those who look to extend their positive stretch, the determination of those willing to bounce back from the previous disappointment, and a general aknowledgement: the circuit charted in the Montecchio Park by the Federazione Sammarinese Ciclismo, will be a severe test for everybody. “It’s a beautiful and demanding loop – Gioele Bertolini said, – I am coming off a good performance in Nals, and I am looking forward to compete for the win and the leader’s jersey.”
The reigning Under 23 European Champion is among the most expected riders on the eve, but he knows he will find solid rivals on his run, even coming from his own team: “My teammate Andrea Tiberi also carries a good condition. Tibi and I are in good synthony: we will both go for personal success, but also keep an eye on the team result. Luca Braidot and Gery Kerschbaumer will be two more riders to watch out for tomorrow.”
Both disappointed in Nals, the GS Carabinieri and the Torpado Gabogas riders will try to bounce back and recover positions in the overall standings. “In Nals I performed under the expectations, but it’s already behind me,” – told Luca Braidot. “About ten days ago I went on recce on the course, but it was soaking wet, so the conditions are sure to be different. Nevertheless, I had the opportunity to see this technical and tough course, with steep climbs and very short descents. It won’t be easy for anybody.” Also Estonian Martin Loo (Hawaii Express) and Colombian Jhonnatan Botero Villegas (KTM Protek Dama) are expected to be in the run for the podium positions in San Marino.
In the Women’s Open race, a nice and unpredictable challenge is expected, with Internazionali d’Italia Series’ reigning champion Serena Calvetti (KTM Protek Dama) and Lisa Rabensteiner (Team Focus Selle Italia) among the favorites. Also watch out for youngsters such as Greta Seiwald (Team Focus Selle Italia), Marika Tovo and Giorgia Marchetti (Team Rudy Project). Among Juniors, Filippo Fontana (Gottardo Giochi Caneva) will show the jersey earned in Nals with his Junior Series success, whilst Giada Specia (ASD Team Velociraptors) is expected among the standout performers of the Junior Women’s race.
Today, Saturday April 21st, the programme of Titano XCO was opened by the non-competitive races for children and amateurs. Tomorrow, at 10 CET, the Junior Men will kick off Internazionali d’Italia Series stage 2, followed by Open and Junior Women (12.00) and Open Men (14.00).
An all-new feature of the 2018 season is the live streaming of the four stages of Internazionali d’Italia Series via its official channels. From 13.50 CET, it will be possible to follow the Open Men’s race live, with highlights and interviews of all the races.
