After Games of the Small States of Europe, San Marino launches a new, ambitious event: on Sunday April 22nd, Titano XCO will be the first Internazionali d’Italia Series race organized in non-Italian territory
Internazionali d’Italia Series will cross the national borders for the first time in 17 years of history. After the “hors catégorie” opening round in Nals (Bozen, Northern Italy), the most important Mountain Bike Cross Country circuit in Italy – run by CM Outdoor Events with the backing of the Italian Cycling Federation and the International Cycling Union – will travel to the Republic of San Marino for the first edition of Titano XCO, the Mountain Bike race organized by the San Marino Cycling Federation on Sunday April 22nd.
Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 2 will be run inside the Montecchio Park at the foot of the Mount Titano, on the Mountain Bike race’s route of the 2017 Games of the Small States of Europe, won by the Denmark-born Luxembourger Soren Nissen (Individual race) and the San Marino squad (Team classification).
The good feedbacks of the race, as well as the concentration of passionate riders in the small Republic, have finally convinced the San Marino Cycling Federation to commit and invest in the Olympic discipline of mountain bike, with the goal of raising the overall level of the national movement, as stressed by San Marino Cycling Federation’s Vice-President Alessandro Stacchini. “We have a good number of Mountain Bike riders in San Marino, but we want to improve their technical level – said Stacchini. – That is why we wanted to cooperate with an important and established reality like Internazionali d’Italia Series. I think it’s very important for our young athletes to compete with and against the best Italian and international prospects”.
The event’s programme will be run over two days: on Saturday April 21st, Titano XCO will start with the Amateur races, whilst on Sunday, Junior and Open (Elite and U23) athletes will face a 4,2Km-circuit with 193 mt elevation per lap. The Open Men’s race will be broadcast in LIVE streaming on the circuit’s official channels, together with the highlights of the categories Open Women, Junior Men and Women. Meantime, athletes like the Braidot twins (Daniele and Luca), Andrea Tiberi and reigning U23 European Champion Gioele Bertolini are confirmed at the start of Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 2.
“The heavy snowfalls have been affecting our work but Titano XCO represents a great occasion for the San Marino Cycling Federation – Stacchini continued – We have started the adventure in the Mountain Bike world with a medium long-term perspective: our goal is to organize a HC race, and an international event like the European Championships. We can nurture such an ambition thanks to the support of the San Marino National Olympic Committee and the Sports State Secretariat of the Republic of San Marino, and the backing of our partners: Giochi del Titano, Titanka, Lauretana and San Marino Cycling Experience”.
