On Saturday June 3rd, the 31-year-old rider will return to the place where she conquered the National title last year. Serena Calvetti and Chiara Teocchi will duel for the Open Women crown in the last Internazionali d’Italia Series stage
Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final act in Courmayeur (June 2nd-3rd) will stage the final showdown for the Open Women’s crown between Serena Calvetti (Damil GT – Trevisan) and Chiara Teocchi (Bianchi Countervail). In the Aosta Valley event, though, the two Italians will find another tough opponent in Italian National Champion Eva Lechner, who will take part in the Internazionali d’Italia Series last round, making her seasonal debut in Italy in the process.
One year ago, Eva Lechner had conquered the Italian National title in Courmayeur: the rider from Alto Adige will return to the Mont Blanc hoping to build up for a strong second part of the season, with her main focus on the next World Cup rounds, the European Championships in Darfo Boario Terme (Italy) and the World Championships in Cairns (Australia).
“I’m not at my best yet, but I hope to do a good race at Courmayeur MTB Event, – Eva Lechner said. – I won the Italian Championships in Courmayeur last year: the route is demanding, I like it and I have good memories here. I’m trying to recover from some physical issues, but I hope that Courmayeur MTB Event can be a turning point of my season. My main rivals will be Calvetti, Teocchi and Rabensteiner.”
The Clif Pro Team rider will bring additional interest to the Open Women race: overall leader Serena Calvetti (81 points) and Chiara Teocchi (78) will need to face a strong opponent for the stage win. Calvetti has worn the leader’s jersey since HER success at Verona MTB International, but defending champion Teocchi showed an consistency throughout the calendar, cutting down her gap in the next stages, Milano – La Montagnetta, Montichiari – Trofeo Delcar and Nalles – Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race.
Courmayeur MTB Event will assign a double points compared to the other Internazionali d’Italia Series’ rounds, leaving room for the ambitions of Anna Oberparleiter (Team Lapierre Trentino, 61 points), Laura Abril Restrepo (Burn MTB Pro Team, 60 points) and home-favorite Martina Berta (BH-SR Suntour, 50 points). Lisa Rabensteiner (Focus XC Team) also hopes to be in the game after a slow start of the season.
On Friday June 2nd, Courmayeur will start with the Team Relay Italian National Championships: the programme will open at 2,00 pm CET with Rookie and Cadet categories, followed by Amateurs (3,15 pm), Open, U23 and Juniores (4,30 pm). On Saturday, the programme of Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final round will open at 9.30 with the Junior Men race, followed by Open Women (11,30), Juniores Women (11,32) and Open Men (1,30 pm).
