The Austrian youngster and her teammate Alan Hatherly will don the #1 number in Internazionali d’Italia Series stage 2 to be held on Saturday, April 2nd. High expectations also for the UCI Junior Series
In spite of some early-Spring showers forecast for the weekend, the atmosphere is heating up in Nals (Bozen, Northern Italy) for the Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race, with now less than 48 hours to go.
Austrian Mona Mitterwallner has announced her presence in Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 2, to be held on Saturday, April 2nd. In 2021, the Cannondale Factory Racing Tyrolean conquered two World titles, the XCO one in Val di Sole among Under 23, and the Elite Marathon crown at the Elba Island.
“I’m happy to take part in Nals’ event, one of my favorite races. I love this course with many climbing sections. My goal is to make a great performance and get myself a confidence boost in view of the UCI World Cup seasonal debut in Brazil”, said Mona Mitterwallner, who will take part in the Women’s Open race (start at 11.30 CET) with the #1 bib.
Team Cannondale Factory Racing will also boast another #1 bib on the starting grid, South African Alan Hatherly, who’s expected to be the main favorite for the Men’s Open competition (start at 13.30 CET).
Südtirol’s Eva Lechner (Trinx Factory Racing) and Gerhard Kerschbaumer (Specialized Factory Racing) will be among the toughest rivals of the Cannondale riders, in addition to Italian Champion Nadir Colledani (MMR). In the Women’s race, 2019 U23 World Cup winner Ronja Eibl (Alpecin-Fenix) and Dutch Lotte Koopmans will try to disrupt the plans of the favorites.
Winner of Internazionali d’Italia Series’ opening round in San Zeno di Montagna, Marco Puntener (Thömus) is the top name for the first Italian stage of the UCI Junior Series (start at 09.30 CET), whilst Brit Ella Maclean-Howell leads the field of the Junior Women race.
After cheering for the MTB champions on Saturday, on Sunday Nals will welcome the traditional youth competition reserved for Rookies and Cadets: Women Rookies and Cadets at 9.30, Men Rookies 1st year at 10.30, Men Rookies 2nd year at 11.30, Men Cadets 1st year at 12.30 and Men Cadets 2nd year at 13.30 (all CET times).
