MTB rising stars take the spotlight in Nals at UCI Junior Series

The best prospects of international MTB will take part in Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 2 Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race, on Saturday, April 2nd

The Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race in Nals (Bozen, Northern Italy) is the oldest Italian MTB event with its 21 editions, but the organizers of the South Tyrolean competition always paid special attention to the growth of the new generations.

The best prospects of the international Mountain Bike will be under the spotlight in Nals. On Saturday, April 2nd, and Sunday, April 3rd, for the second stage of Internazionali d’Italia Series, also part of the UCI Junior Series calendar.

Many athletes who shone in Nals went on to break out on the World scene, most recently Mona Mitterwallner to Laura Stigger, Adrien Boichis, and Italy’s Sara Cortinovis. Nals’ race route might be old-style, with the long Nightingale hill, but is certainly a reliable test for the riders’ ambitions in the early part of the season.

Internazionali d’Italia Series’ Men Junior leader Mario Püntener confirmed his presence in Nals after taking the stage 1 win in San Zeno di Montagna, but plenty of talented youngsters are set to clash for the big prize. The UCI Junior Series Men’s race will start on Saturday, April 2nd, at 9.30 CET, whilst the JR Women race is scheduled for 11.30 CET, with Italian Valentina Corvi at the start wearing the leader jersey conquered in San Zeno.

In addition, on Sunday, April 3rd, the Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race will welcome the youth competitions (Rookies and Cadets).

Our organizing group has always believed in youngsters. It is very important for us that also Rookies and Cadets have the opportunity to live an experience together with the pro athletes, racing in an international atmosphere. I think this is key for their growth”, said ASD Sunshine Racers Nals’ President Florian Pallweber.

In addition, we are very proud to stage a UCI Junior Series race again this year. In recent editions, we have seen so many international prospects shine in Nals and then break out on the biggest stages, and we look forward to another major show this year.
