Teocchi to Valle di Casies to strengthen Internazionali lead

The Italian looks to defend the Open Women’s leader jersey on Wednesday, June 2nd in South Tyrol (Northern Italy). “The Internazionali d’Italia Series’ overall is my main goal. After that, I will target the Italian title while dreaming the World Championships in Val di Sole”

After a 2020 season affected by physical issues, Chiara Teocchi recovered in time for the 2021 edition of the Internazionali d’Italia Series. This year, the Italian athlete has found her best feelings in the most important Italian MTB circuit, which she had already conquered in the 2016 edition at only 19 years of age.

The new rider of the Team Trinity Racing is ready to defend her leadership in the Open Women category in Internazionali d’Italia Series’ stage 4 Valle di Casies, to be held on Wednesday, June 2nd in South Tyrol. After a solid performance over the first three stages and the prestigious second place in Capoliveri behind former World Champion Kate Courtney, Chiara Teocchi leads the classification with 61 points, preceding Mona Mitterwallner (56), Jolanda Neff (56) and Kate Courtney (54).

2021 is the year of my rebirth as an athlete” – said Chiara Teocchi. – “I’m happy to have found the best sensations again. Internazionali d’Italia Series was crucial to return to a high level, as racing top-class international events in Italy has been a huge opportunity, particularly in a period with so many cancellations and delays.

The Open Women classification is still very open, but Teocchi has got a chance to strengthen her lead. “I’ve never raced in Valle di Casies. However, I have some cushion and I hope to defend this jersey in view of my favourite event, La Thuile MTB Race. I will face the race in South Tyrol with the same plan of the first three appointments: I will try to give everything from start to finish“.

In addition to the UCI World Cup events, the last two stages of the Internazionali d’Italia Series will determine the hierarchies in the Italian National Team in view of the Tokyo OG and the UCI World Championships in Val di Sole. “Unfortunately, I had allergy-related issues in the World Cup events, but I feel better now. I would be proud to compete in a World Championship in my home Country, but I will keep focusing on one race at a time: my main goal is to win the Internazionali d’Italia Series. After that, I hope to make a good run at the Italian Championships“.

The program in Valle di Casies starts on Tuesday, June 1st with the Italian E-Bike Championships at 16:00 CET. On Wednesday, June 2nd, the Internazionali d’Italia Series races will take place: Junior Men at 10:00, Open Women and Junior Women at 12:00, and Open Men at 14:00 (all CET hours).
