On Saturday, the final showdown in the Men’s Open race with two contrasting styles: the technical skills and the explosive legs of the Italian rider and the strong power of the Estonian. The most awaited race of Alpago Bike Funtastic’s programme will be broadcasted in LIVE streaming on Facebook and Youtube at 3.00 pm CET
The stage is now ready for Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final showdown in the Men’s Open category, between the Italian Gioele Bertolini and the Estonian Martin Loo. Started in San Marino, the “great” duel of the 2018 edition continued in Pineto, in view of the circuit’s last round, Alpago Bike Funtastic, and will be held on Saturday, June 30th in Chies d’Alpago (Belluno, Northern Italy).
On one hand, the favorite of the youngsters “Gio il Bullo” joins the show thanks to his explosiveness and technical skills. On the other hand, we will see the great power of the Estonian rider – who in career gained the nickname of “Tallinn Locomotive”. The link is their coach Domingo Copelli, who also let the athletes share the training area in Livigno. “In Valtellina, I’ve found the ideal location to train for Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final stage – said Bertolini. – The condition is good, but the race will actually define the matter. I’m confident and motivated to keep the leader’s jersey”.
“Lately, I’ve been training with Martin (Loo), a great ‘rider’ – continued Team Focus Selle Italia’s athlete – In the climbs, Martin can make the difference with the regular pace, whilst I’m an athlete with explosive skills. We’ve been training well: now, we can’t wait to be in Chies d’Alpago to see who will be the strongest one!” With a gap of 4 points (81 vs. 77), Bertolini and Loo will find on their way two tough opponents: Henrique Avancini (Cannonale Factory Racing) and Stephane Tempier (Team Bianchi-Countervail), #3 and #4 of the UCI World Ranking, respectively.
After the good performance in the HC Marlene Südtirol Sunshine Race in Nals, Bertolini, 23, finished in second place at Titano XCO and Aprutium Race, where conquered the overall leadership, while Team Hawaii Express’ Estonian relaunched his ambitions with his success in San Marino. “In Nals, I didn’t find a circuit fitting my characteristics but I had good legs thanks to the beautiful final part of the cyclocross season. I think I can improve and avoid small mistakes. I didn’t manage the stage victory but the main goal is the overall success”, explains the Italian rider.
On the occasion of Alpago Bike Funtastic’s Open race (LIVE streaming on Internazionali d’Italia Series’ Facebook page and Youtube channel at 3.00 pm CET), Alessandro Naspi (38 points), Alessandro Serravalle (27) and Juri Zanotti (23) will face off for the U23 title.
The programme of Internazionali d’Italia Series’ final stage is starting on Saturday, June 30th at 9:30 am CET with the Men’s Junior race, followed by Junior and Open Women (12:00 am).
Alpago Bike Funtastic’s programme will be opened by the Italian XCE Championships, on Friday June 29th. Finally, on Sunday July 1st, Alpago Bike Funtastic will end in the name of the youth cycling with the Italian Youth Cross Country Championships (Rookies and Cadets).
